Bonner Announces Grant to Grow CDL Program at Mercer County Career Center

October 21, 2026

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) today announced a grant for a significant investment in the Mercer County Career Center to expand its Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program and meet growing workforce needs.

The school is the recipient of a $500,000 grant, which Bonner supported, through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Career and Technical Education grant program.

“Investing in career and technical education helps prepare students for good-paying jobs while meeting the workforce needs of the region,” Bonner said. “Expanding the CDL training program at the Mercer County Career Center will create more opportunities for students and help address the demand for qualified drivers.”

Currently, the CDL training program at the Mercer County Career Center offers entry-level driver training, including all federally required behind-the-wheel range and road instruction, and provides on-site CDL testing.

“This investment will help ensure students have access to the training they need to safely enter the workforce and build a successful future,” Bonner said.
