Bonner Announces More than $3.5 Million Coming to the 17th District from Marcellus Shale Impact Fees

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) today announced municipalities in the 17th Legislative District will receive more than $656,698 in Marcellus Shale Impact Fees. In addition to the municipal funding, Mercer County will receive more than $313,261 and Butler County will receive more than $2.55 million from the impact fees.
“Pennsylvania is a leading producer of natural gas,” Bonner said. “This part of the economy cannot be ignored. We are fortunate to have abundant clean energy in our Commonwealth that supports infrastructure, public safety, national defense and other community priorities.”
The following impact fee disbursements in the 17th District were announced:
Mercer County:
• Coolspring Township - $3,696.
• Deer Creek Township - $749.
• Delaware Township - $4,943.
• East Lackawannock Township - $10,969.
• Fairview Township - $6,030.
• Findley Township - $4,858.
• Fredonia Borough - $604.
• French Creek Township - $2,993.
• Grove City Borough - $3,608.
• Jackson Center Borough - $248.
• Jackson Township - $10,131.
• Jefferson Township - $34,607.
• Lake Township - $2,384.
• Liberty Township - $2,482.
• Mercer Borough - $2,408.
• Mill Creek Township - $2,893.
• New Lebanon Borough - $140.

Under Act 13 of 2012, impact fees are collected from the drilling companies with 60% returned to counties and municipalities affected by drilling. The rest of the money goes into a Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund, a portion of which is provided to counties. The remaining funds are used by the state for emergency response planning, training and other activities; water, storm water, and sewer system construction and repair; infrastructure maintenance and repair; as well as statewide environmental initiatives.
