January 21, 2026

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) announced more $2 million in state funding has been awarded to critical infrastructure projects in his legislative district.

“These projects will address much needed infrastructure improvements, a bridge replacement and upgrades to pedestrian safety that will benefit residents for years to come,” Bonner said. “I was pleased to support these investments coming to our legislative district.”

The grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) through the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) and the Small Water and Sewer Program (SWS).

The following SWS grant was awarded:
Springfield Township, Mercer County - $300,000 for the Springfield Township Sanitary Sewer System Improvements. The project includes replacing defective pipe sections, manholes and upgrades to lift stations serving Springfield and Pine Townships.

The Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program awards grants to municipalities and municipal authorities for water, sewer, storm water and flood control projects with a cost of not less than $30,000 and not more than $500,000. Funds may be used toward construction, improvement, expansion or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply system, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system or flood control projects.

The following MTF grants were awarded:
Mercer County - $650,000 for the Hosack Road Structurally Deficient Bridge Restoration Project. This project will replace the bridge over Yellow Creek in Jackson Center Borough. The work will remove the old bridge parts, build new supports, add a stronger deck, and improve the foundation to make the bridge safer and last longer.
Slippery Rock Borough/Slippery Rock University - $1.1 million for the Community and Campus Connections Project. This project will upgrade pedestrian safety in and around Slippery Rock University and the Borough. Improvements include replacing aging sidewalks, adding new curbs and ramps for ADA compliance, and filling gaps along key streets. The plan also revitalizes downtown streetscaping with new lighting, refurbished benches, and additional trash receptacles to create a safer, more welcoming environment.

The MTF provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the Commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets including streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
