GROVE CITY – Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) today announced more than $2.5 million in impact fees paid by Marcellus Shale drilling companies are coming to the 17th Legislative District. 

“I am thrilled to see the natural gas drilling and subsequent impact fees are directly benefitting local communities in Mercer and Butler counties, as well as across the Commonwealth,” said Bonner. “The positive impacts from natural gas drilling will greatly impact our economy and our workers, as well as counties and municipalities reaping the rewards as well.”

The following impact fee revenue amounts were announced by the state Public Utility Commission (PUC) for Mercer and Butler counties and eligible municipalities that are a part of the 17th Legislative District. 

Butler County: 

Allegheny Township – $67,224.
Bruin Borough – $2,717.
Cherry Township – $19,872.
Cherry Valley Borough – $1,159. 
Concord Township – $71,461.
Eau Clarie Borough – $1,990.
Fairview Borough – $995.
Fairview Township – $21,511.
Harrisville Borough – $4,408.
Karns City Borough – $818.
Marion Township – $19,855.
Mercer Township – $8,204. 
Parker Township – $36,109. 
Petrolia Borough – $1,400.
Slippery Rock Borough – $15,413.
Slippery Rock Township – $44,607.
Venango Township – $13,623.
Washington Township – $34,100.

Under Act 13 of 2012, impact fees are collected from the drilling companies with 60% returned to counties and municipalities affected by drilling. The rest of the money goes into a Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund, a portion of which is provided to counties. The remaining funds are used by the state for emergency response planning, training and other activities; water, storm water, and sewer system construction and repair; infrastructure maintenance and repair; as well as statewide environmental initiatives.

Checks to municipalities are expected to be distributed in early July.
